Nine Negroes in Jail After Scottsboro Train Incident
Detachments of National Guardsmen were ordered to Scottsboro Alabama to guard the Jackson County jail where nine Negroes aged 5 to 26 are held for allegedly attacking two white girls Victoria Price 17 and Ruby Bates 18 of Huntsville. The girls claimed they boarded the freight at Chattanooga with six youths and were attacked after the box car stopped at Stevenson. A free for all ensued and several youths were ejected from the train.

Pioneer Dies in Childress After Illness
C. E. Crews, 64, died Tuesday night in San Antonio after a two to three week illness. He was brought to Childress Wednesday evening for funeral arrangements likely to be Friday. Crews moved to Childress County in 1887 from Wilson County with his parents and built a livestock business, later partnering with his brother J. M. Crews to raise cattle and livestock.
