A supposed new name for Amarillo as Gateway to the Uranium West emerges. Reports claim airlines may equip planes with Geiger counters and scintillators, briefing stewardesses to narrate uranium country flights originating from Amarillo.
A local call praises teachers while criticizing education system curricula and urges parent led committees to craft ideal phonics based instruction. The piece suggests random communities name twenty patient teachers to design grade by grade curriculums and warns against NEA and Columbia University textbook authors. Atty. David T. Searls testified that a bill to exempt natural gas producers from federal regulation would indirectly affect producers' prices. He said price control remains on the producer and favored the Harris bill only as the best available, with Eisenhower era panels recommending exemption from FPC rules but urging consumer protection via market-based pipeline rates.

A pet hen nesting atop tar in a barrel at Mixson Brothers Store in Kirbyville hatched eggs after a warm spell. A norther froze the tar, trapping the hen. Clifford and Albert’s crew freed her after hours of digging. the hen later disappeared during the night, leaving the eggs abandoned.
About 120 farmers and businessmen return from Austin where they lobbied for natural gas irrigation bills. Supporters warn of a tough path for H R 217 and 376 as oil lobbyists push back, with Phillips Petroleum facing scrutiny over gas production and access for on farm use.
March 24 report from Austin says a House subcommittee for the Panhandle gas for irrigation bill remains unappointed after a day of debate. Rep. Tom King planned talks with Rep. Guy Hazlett on membership while 200 North Plains farmers heard six hours of argument on the bill and gas pricing. The subcommittee will review the bill for one week. the economic waste bill passed the House on a 89 to 52 vote to print despite committee deadlock. Dallas advocate Jack Woodward said the victory could loosen gas industry influence and aid North Plains farmers unable to obtain irrigation gas. Phillips Petroleum officials argued most Panhandle gas goes to pipelines or company use, limiting supply for farmers and potential water-well pumps.
Sen Jimmy Phillips kept talking in the Texas Senate promising to continue through the night and into the next day. He demanded an extra Measly million dollars annually for John Sealy Hospital at Galveston within the 1.3 billion general spending bill and condemned Gov Allan Shivers allies who opposed more charity hospital funds. He named Ottis Lock of Lufkin and Crawford Martin of Hillsboro as supporters.
