The Senate approved a $200000 study on inflation remedies led by Democratic Leader Lyndon B. Johnson. The inquiry aims to rival Eisenhower administration efforts, with Nixon directing the administration study and Douglas heading the Senate committee. Johnson argues for understanding the budget and price link to act wisely. He says inflation burdens fixed incomes and challenges deficit spending as the sole cause.
A Texas joint water advisory committee urged a new fee system on underground and surface water to fund the Board of Water Engineers. They discussed a possible summer summit with Soviet Premier Khrushchev and debated formal outlines for future talks while Macmillan pressed for trade restraint relief.
The United States says evidence shows the Soviet fishing trawler Novorossisk caused five transatlantic cable breaks between February 21 and 25. A note to Moscow asserts a strong presumption of violation and reserves damages. The U S action followed boarding the trawler off Newfoundland on February 26.

Firemen battled a fast moving blaze at the La Nova Theater in downtown Pampa. Damage is estimated between 150000 and 200000 dollars. He described accepting stocks loans and airline tickets from Universal Construction Co of Bangkok and said he recommended a highway contract totaling over one million dollars while noting lack of contract plans or specifications.
