Weather forecast from the US Weather Bureau notes considerable cloudiness in Amarillo and vicinity with scattered light showers. Cooler conditions expected Wednesday afternoon and Thursday. high Wednesday around 63 with overnight low 44. West Texas and New Mexico show cloudiness, scattered showers, and cooler temperatures, with snow in northern mountains and windy periods.

Zivion Mitich faced four hours of questioning at a deportation hearing in Lubbock as officers pressed him on Communist ties. He denied being a Communist and argued he would be killed if forced to return to Yugoslavia. A decision is due in about two weeks from El Paso special inquiry officer Phillip Berner.
A US Navy tanker carrying 92 officers and men was exposed to radioactive ashes from the Bikini Atoll H-bomb blast. The Patapsco received slight contamination but no injuries were found after medical exams. The ship was laid up at Pearl Harbor for decontamination and checking.
The Senate voted 53 to 36 to reject a resolution to void the 1952 New Mexico senatorial election and seat Dennis Chavez. Chavez did not vote as Democrats backed him with five Republicans and an independent to uphold his victory amid reported irregularities. The chamber also rejected by 53-36 a proposal to replace Chavez by a special election.
The Texas Senate approved a $10,687,500 state buildings appropriation by a 25 to 1 vote after a nearly four hour filibuster by Sen. Jimmy Phillips of Angleton who sought to strike funds for the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas and a Houston dental branch. The measure advances to the House as Phillips urged an amendment cutting the total in a lengthy floor clash.
