Pilot and Sweetheart Die as Plane Crashes Near St Louis

Raymond S. Bowers aged 23 and Elizabeth Eslinger aged 22 were killed when a plane he piloted fell 200 feet, struck high tension wires, and burned on the outskirts of St Louis. Bowers had just earned his pilot license three days earlier and was a sergeant in the Missouri National Guard aviation section. Eslinger resided in Wellston, a suburb.

Quartermaster Grimmer of Polar Vessel Perishes Off Swinburne Island

Willard I. Grimmer a 27 year old Philadelphia man and quartermaster of Sir Hubert Wilkins polar submarine Nautilus was swept overboard and drowned off Swinburne Island in the lower bay while the Nautilus towed toward the Navy yard. The crew and Caspian attempted to salvage but heavy swell and an east wind prevented recovery. The Nautilus planned for Arctic ice exploration next summer and the loss cast a blight over its arrival.

Seven Avery children die in New Hampshire fire

In Holderness New Hampshire on March 22 seven children of Mr and Mrs Louis Avery died as a backwoods home burned in under quarter of an hour. Parents and six other children escaped with burns. The infant Joseph perished with the others in the blaze. Neighbors summoned Plymouths fire engine too late to save the house. The Averys famed for a large family had many children living elsewhere. The cause of the blaze was not determined.

Woman Dies in Fort Worth Poison Case

Mrs Mildred Matthews 23 of Woes lace Texas died in Fort Worth after ingesting poison. Found seated in a car with an empty poison bottle beside her she was taken to a hospital where she died two hours later.

Six Die In Royal Scot Wreck Near Leighton Buzzard

Six people died and many were injured when the Royal Scot express of the London, Midland and Scottish line wrecked at Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire. Rescue teams worked through the tangled coaches as hospital trains brought physicians and nurses. The engineer and fireman were among the dead. nine people were seriously injured. The cause was not yet known. The Royal Scot, famed for speed, had recently averaged 90 mph on a London Carlisle run.
