Austin March 22 Representative Alf P C Petsch of Fredericksburg urged an immediate special session of the legislature to validate district road bonds and intervene in the dispute between the attorney general's department and the highway department. He criticized the highway commission for awarding more than one million dollars in asphalt resurfacing contracts and urged relief from the legislature. Petsch supported the amnesty bill restoring former governor James R. Verguson to state office.

Henry Burnett former Childress County clerk was arrested in Klamath Falls Oregon while returning to Texas. He faces 42 indictments for allegedly embezzling 23250 in county funds and had been missing for about three months. A letter led investigators to intercept a clothing shipment to Oregon. Harry Johnson was arrested in Klamath Falls for embezzlement of 22000 in Childress County Texas and a female accomplice was hospitalized with appendicitis. Johnson was en route to Texas with officers. He worked in the railroad shops before arrest.

Special to The News KEESS March 22 Bandits Sunday night broke into four business houses here and escaped with nearly $300 in cash and valuables valued at about $150. The Moore Dry Goods store lost overcoats shirts and hats worth just over $100. At Scott-Tracy Hardware a shotgun and some change were taken but the safe was not molested. Northcutt Grocery woke to intruders but the burglars fled after a light was switched on. two or three men were seen with no definite crew identified.
Buffalo, March 22. The engineer of Nickel Plate train 61 from Chicago to Buffalo was killed when the locomotive derailed at Athol Springs ten miles west of here. Split rails were blamed. Engineer William Pierce of Conneaut Ohio was trapped beneath his engine and recovered by wrecking crew. Several passenger cars left the rails with no serious injuries.
In Albany on March 22 the Wales bill to restore a state prohibition enforcement act was defeated in the senate 27 to 24. Five Republicans joined the Democrats in opposing the measure, ending the effort to bring the act back to the statute books.
Iola Kansas March 22 late wire report says Thur low W McCullough a Santa Fe telegraph operator died after exchanging shots with a masked bandit resisting a cash theft. He attempted to summon police by telephone as the robber escaped with about 69 dollars from the cash drawer. Chicago auto deaths set spring record with 12 fatalities in one day and Cook County total 189 since January 1. Mayo brothers surgeon Dr William Mayo docked in Beaumont aboard yacht North Star en route to Galveston for a winter outing in Louisiana and Texas Guilt waters.
A contract is let for a duplicate of the present building to begin immediately. Fred Bone is the contractor with a total cost of 456 680 dollars.
An eight story addition will adjoin the existing Amarillo office building at Third and Polk, duplicating the current structure to house 291 offices. The project features a grand entrance, a marble staircase, and four high speed elevators. Completion targeted by December 1, with construction starting promptly and rent kept at $30 a month.
The Treasury announced March income tax returns, the first under the new law, will likely exceed the original Mellon estimate by about 20 million dollars. Palm Beach authorities promise strict policing of immodesty by both men and women on streets and beaches. Any person found immodestly clad will be arrested and fined up to 25 dollars for indecent exposure as stated by Police Chief John Cash.
Rebecca Jane Fisher aged 94 known as the mother of Texas died Sunday night. Her body will lie in state in the senate chamber at the Texas State House with the flag at half staff. A bier will display paintings of historic events. plans call for the funeral Wednesday with time and place undecided.
March 22. The first condolence message on Queen Louise's death to reach King Christian came from President Coolidge who recently endured the death of his father. Messages of sympathy also included one from the former Kaiser of Germany.
Colder tonight with frost in Amarillo and vicinity. West Texas may see frost in far west. Tuesday brings little change in temperature for the region. High north to northwest pressure causes rain over parts of northern Texas and Louisiana into Arkansas and Missouri. Observations at 8 am show variable readings with a cold, fair night ahead.
