Reporter notes in Little Rock reveal a public referendum on parking meters ends with 2200 yes and 5900 no. City council, once in favor, now plans to reduce loading zones and parking areas, letting residents park where they please.
Dallas March 21 A criminal court judge will decide Friday if Fred Felix Adair Jr. condemned rapist known as the love burglar should get a new trial. The young office worker was found guilty of assaulting a Vickery housewife as her two children looked on. He received the death penalty.
Foreign committees in the Senate and House diverged over substituting surplus US farm products for a billion dollars of European recovery cash. The Senate approved its foreign spending bill while the House backed a cash cut. Kee of West Virginia signaled support, as lawmakers weigh trimming 150 million from the plan.
Ford argues courts may fix federal worker qualifications but not private citizens. He says the Justice Department will pursue Communist cases through orderly prosecutions to gain court approval. Emerson P. Schmidt of the US Chamber urges quick passage of measures to expose Communist groups and extend to Fascists and Nazis.

Senator McCarthy charged in Amarillo that a State Department man is the top Russian espionage agent in the country. Senator Tydings countered he had no primary evidence and suggested investigators search existing files. Tydings refused to identify the alleged spy chief.
Rockton Illinois reports eight people killed when their car crashed head on into an oil transport truck on a dangerous highway known as death curve. The truck driver survived with only minor injuries.
Grace Brock Caldwell born April 29 1883 in Brock Township Nesquehena County Pennsylvania is the second child and only daughter. She marries Sidney Tate June 2 1903 in the Caldwell Pairens in iin after a ten month engagement. Sidney born March 16 1877 is the son of Alfred Tate and Anna Harmon Tate. Alfred Tate born in London came to America early and is distantly related to Sir Henry Tate. Continued on Page 5.
The House Appropriations Committee shaved about 1.57 billion from Truman’s requested 30.61 billion federal budget to fund more than 40 agencies for the coming year. The omnibus bill totals 29.05 billion, excludes foreign aid, and faces a projected 4.15 billion deficit. Republicans call it too large while aiming for further cuts.
A Potter County jury found Clyde W. Matthews sane and rejected insanity claims after a Sanity hearing in 47th District Court. The 27 year old Abilene man, charged with the July 13 1949 Lloyds Service Station robbery, was arrested days after the crime and faced additional forgery penalties from Brownwood.
Actress Joan Leslie married Dr. William Caldwell a Hollywood physician yesterday at Our Lady of Sorrows Church. The 25 year old bride and her groom, about 30, left by car for a northern California honeymoon after the ceremony.

Governor temporarily acting as governor Wardlow Lane may call a special election to replace Rep. Gene Worley who resigns effective April 3. Worley will become a US Court of Customs and Patent Appeals justice on April 4 and begin duties April 17. The governor’s office may delay the call to align with the July 22 primary.
Weather almanac notes Texas west of the Gulf Plains will run about 3 degrees below normal with minima around 40s to mid 40s and maxima near 65 to 75. Warmer Wednesday followed by cooler late Thursday and Friday with little or no precipitation expected.
President Truman mapped a sweeping stump touring plan for spring and fall 1949. He will begin in May with rear platform talks, travel to Washington state for the Grand Coulee Dam dedication around May 11, and finish May 15 in Chicago Stadium for a large Democratic rally. Robert Pryor Jr a 27 year old Tulsa Oklahoma man pleaded guilty to transporting a stolen two seater Inter state airplane across state lines in violation of the Dyer Act. Pryor indicted by federal grand jury and case continued to April 10 for federal probation investigation. The aircraft stolen Feb 25 from Amarillo Municipal Airport found March 4 at Mt Carmel Illinois.
Rep Ralph Edwin Church of Illinois 66 a Republican veteran dies of heart embolism during a committee hearing on Truman reorganization plans. He collapsed at 9 35 AM in the House Committee on Executive Expenditures with about 100 spectators present. His resolution aimed to block moving power from the National Labor Relations Board to the board itself.
Texas Ranger John Wood leaves for Carlsbad New Mexico to prove that Jose Villalobos the man who killed Sheriff O W Morrow is an American citizen. Villalobos is held in Ojinaga Mexico awaiting possible Texas prosecution. A Midland woman who knew Villalobos in Carlsbad supports the citizenship claim.
