Clayton girl Pansy Mason was gravely injured in a late night car wreck near Texline New Mexico. She was taken to a Clayton hospital where attendants called her condition in definite and serious. A young man in the car, employed by a Clayton doctor, escaped serious injuries.

Angus Gaines 1100 No 1 Lincoln Street was found dead in the bathroom of Roy Warnix by Warnix at his home late last night. Gaines had been in poor health and unemployed for several years.

A fire at 1100 East Tenth Avenue yesterday afternoon gutted three businesses and damaged a fourth, with two more interiors smoked. Major losses fell on Lewis Gas Mart Bond Electric and American Battery, all run by E R Lewis. A worker dropped ignited gasoline while washing clothes, igniting the blaze which firefighters promptly controlled. The Bohn Refrigeration Service also smoked, while East Side Barber Shop and Centennial Cafe suffered minor smoke damage. Insurance coverage noted by Mr. Lewis.
The Senate may vote on preserving the nation’s top auditor, the comptroller general, who reviews the government books and blocks spending. Senator Byrd argues the administration reform would dissolve the office, weaken safeguards against waste, and transfer powers to a new auditor general and the budget director.
U S Army and Navy officers will study mobilization plans in Washington next week to put more than 2 000 000 men under arms within four months of a war declaration. The session runs March 28 to April 9 with 50 officers from regulars National Guard and reserves. Officials say the program is precautionary and not tied to current tensions.
The body of 70 year old grocer Peter Attalah was found in a tear room above his San Marcos store. He was killed by a blow to the head and had rented rooms above the shop.
Atlanta March 20 A CCC officer says six months of Civilian Conservation Corps training could yield a capable recruit in a month if war or mobilization occurred. Major Sandlin notes CCC youths need only three months to reach a standard, and emphasizes manpower responsibility lies with all men 18 to 45. Since 1933 about 2,500,000 youths trained. CCC is non military but teaches obedience, camp discipline, sanitation and teamwork for potential army service.
