Floods in western Pennsylvania and West Virginia trigger rescue efforts as crews search ruined streets for victims. The disaster has killed at least 86 people with millions in damage and ongoing threats from pestilence, fire, and famine as waters recede from inundated offices and homes.
The AP reports floods devastate eleven states with 270000 affected and 300 million in damage. Death toll 152 as Ohio Valley remains volatile. Gov Earl seeks $10 million. towns like Hartford and Middletown suffer outages while relief spreads by air, rail, and road.
Secretary Wallace announced that the new $470 million agricultural program will pay cooperatives a broad national average of $10 per acre for adopting soil conserving crops and related benefits. His attorney C Lloyd Fisher said the hope hinges on facts in their possession.

Wood Carter assistant cashier and an unidentified bandit were killed in a bank holdup at Bloomingdale Indiana. Carter was ambushed as he entered the bank. police say the bandits likely hid inside after entering overnight. Brown, the cashier, found the bodies. no witnesses are known.
Senator McAdoo of California was in Garfield hospital in Washington for a minor operation performed yesterday and remained under care today.

The fiftieth anniversary of the Boot Hill Battle at Tascosa is recalled as Mrs. Frenchie McCormick nears death. Mrs. J W Woodfield, a friend, sits with her in Tascosa as the battle's date, March 21 1886, is noted. The Texas Rangers were routed and three Rangers died near Boot Hill where the cemetery earned its grim name. One cowboy was killed when he failed to pull his head in.
In Carrizozo New Mexico the jury in the Hollis Martin slaying case against the Shaffer family of Tinnie New Mexico remained out late as they attempt to reach a verdict. The trial began last night and the jury faced difficulty closing the case.
Nine people perished in two fires within hours in Texarkana area. Fire ripped through a business district in the city while another blaze trapped six family members in a four room plantation cabin near Bassett in northeast Arkansas. a seventh family member died in the cabin fire.
March 20 report from Lubbock states Mrs. J. L. Reed 51 of Lovington New Mexico died of third degree burns suffered February 26 when she broke a bottle of gasoline in her bathroom. Death occurred in a local hospital. Funeral rites set for 3 pm Saturday. survivors include husband two children mother one sister and two brothers.
