Axtell states that financing for the Texas Panhandle and Gulf Railroad is assured with an agreement to P and G. The decision is viewed as logical by financiers and now awaits a permit. Activity on financing will begin immediately upon ICC decision.
Ireland Hampton former Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce manager and F W Axtell president of the B P & G Finance Corp say financing for the T P G railroad is assured following a finance committee meeting in Fort Worth. They cite agreements with financiers pending Interstate Commerce Commission ruling on necessity and convenience and note potential branch service rights could boost value for Fort Worth and Dallas.
Heavy rains and snow sweep the Slaton division from Canyon to Dermott with up to two inches of precipitation in eastern New Mexico. Plainview reports an inch, Friona a late heavy rain, and Amarillo sees lighter falls. The moisture boosts a vast Panhandle wheat crop, with about one million acres planted and expectations of above normal yields as soil moisture returns.
Dowager Queen Louise of Denmark widow of King Frederick VIII died this evening in Copenhagen. Her death was due to a heart attack superinduced by pneumonia. She was 74 and the first Danish dowager queen to die in 150 years. Most of her children were present, including Crown Prince Christian Frederick, Queen Alexandrina, and Prince Knud as King Christian decreed three months of court mourning.
Lon A. Smith of the Texas railroad commission welcomed the Interstate Commerce Commission examiner approving the Fort Worth to Tucumcari route. Officials say the decision is the logical solution. In Tulia, plans for a large celebration with Tulsa are announced as the Panhandle celebrates the victory to build into the South Plains.
Day and Zimmerman assume management of the Southwestern Public Service company in Amarillo while ownership remains with Consolidated Power and Light. C C Christ of Philadelphia announced the move detailing no major staff changes and outlined plans for expansion of power lines to Panhandle and Pampa. He emphasized fair water-system disposition, lower rates, and cooperation with Amarillo to support growth.
Building permits for March reach $458,270 with nine days left in the issuance period. If the pace continues, the monthly total could surpass $500,000. This week’s permits amount to $182,915, and the monthly total already exceeds all prior months. The year-to-date permits total $1,162,665.
Work begins Tuesday at Sixth and Polk as the old Masone temple is removed and the site cleared for a 160 by 40 foot ten story office structure with full basement. John McKnight has the excavation contract and W C Hedrick of Fort Worth provides plans. Ground floor stores will fill the first level and completion is projected for November 15 with contract awards forthcoming.

The writer says he is jailed awaiting murder trial and signs as H. T. M. The owner, E W Smith, says the note came from a local bank while cashing a check.
A Woodward Iron Company furnace explosion near Birmingham, Alabama, killed sixteen and injured seventeen. Deputy Coroner Crowe listed the dead as furnace superintendent Howard F. Massey and five other named workers along with eleven unidentified men, with two workers still unaccounted for amid debris removal.

Graham March 26 Bob Barnett former deputy sheriff of Archer county was found guilty of murder for killing Sheriff Harrison Vicard of Archer county at Megargle in September 1925. His punishment was fixed at life imprisonment.
In Omaha Nebraska Frank Carter known as the sniper bandit received the death penalty from a jury for first degree murder during a February 17 robbery attempt on Dr. A D Searles. Carter, who showed little emotion, told his public defender he regretted the jury irregularities motion. He also faces charges for the February 14 shooting of William McDevit, which also carries the death penalty.
Manhattan Kansas March 20 Dr Margaret Russell president of Onelish at the Kansas State Agricultural college here died suddenly this afternoon from pneumonia complications that set in this morning after an operation about a week ago.
The attorney general's department today approved $48,000 worth of bonds for the city of Beaumont as part of a $350,000 water works bond issue voted in 1920. The bonds mature serially and carry 5 percent interest.
A. B. Stinnett said he appeared before House and Senate committees to back bills ratifying the triestate pact for Canadian River irrigation and flood control. The plan spans New Mexico, the Panhandle, and Oklahoma with multiple dams. Stinnett had been in Washington a week advocating for the Rock Island North Plains railroad.
Colonel John C Coolidge father of the president was buried in a Plymouth Vermont farm cemetery in a simple Episcopal service read by Rev John White. Six national guardsmen served as bearers and no music or eulogy was used honoring his wish for ostentation free rites. The interment recalled the 1924 burial of Calvin Coolidge Jr at the same ancestral site as the presidential family returned to the farmhouse before traveling by sleigh to the railroad for Washington.
