Inflation cooled in February as grocery prices fell sharply and gasoline declined. Beef costs dropped 5.9 percent while food prices led the month’s 0.1 percent CPI rise, sparking White House optimism about economic policy and a fragile recovery amid unemployment declines.
Two daughters of Pittsburgh banker Seward Prosser Mellon were abducted in Brooklyn during a custody dispute. Police said the girls Cathy and Constance Elizabeth Mellon were found safe and unharmed after three men seized them from their bodyguard near their home and forced the bodyguard to surrender his weapon.
