Missouri Beef Packers Eyed for New Plants in Tri-State Area
Missouri Beef Packers Inc plans a breaking and fabricating plant at Friona and two more packing plants possibly in the Tri State area. Mail Unit Approved For City In Texas Post Office Plan
The Budget Department in Washington approved a 12 million post office facility to replace the Central Distribution Unit in Amarillo at 624 N Fairfield. Rep. Bob Price of Pampa says the new building will not replace the U S Post Office and Federal Courthouse at 5th and Taylor and plans were shown to House and Senate Public Works Committees. Amarillo postmaster D T Davis Jr says the current unit has been in place since June 1967 and handles 400 000 to 600 000 pieces daily plus 15 000 to 20 000 bulk mail. The city is one of 52 National Transportation Centers with Dallas and Houston as the other Texas centers. No construction site has been announced and plans include bulk mail handling space and a vehicle maintenance area.

Len Masters, 48, loses bid for rehearing on his life sentence from a 1968 47th District Court conviction for theft over $50. The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals denied the petition after the appellate court previously affirmed the conviction and sentence. Prosecution said two prior Oklahoma felonies for grand larceny and forgery were alleged during the looting case.
