GOV JOHN Connally discussed a noon Friday plan for a teacher pay hike before 600 Amarillo civic club members. He toured Amarillo Air Force Base Medical Center and Canyon during the day’s activities.
In Cleveland, about half of Collingwood high school’s 3,400 students returned to classes amid a tense scene. Police conducted a sweep outside the school, rounding up various weapons as crowd tensions persisted after earlier racial troubles.

About 130 US forces took part in the seventh American air raid on North Vietnam striking Bien Son depot and an ammunition dump north of Vinh 130 miles from Hanoi. Maj Gen Joseph Moore says 60 fighters and bombers and 60 to 70 Navy planes attacked with 80 to perc ent effectiveness. Air raids used napalm and fire was light according to the official. The claim noted that three planes were downed during the strike.
Sen. Robert F. Kennedy plans to scale Mt Kennedy in the Canadian wilds to plant American and Canadian flags atop the 13,900 foot peak believed to be the highest unclimbed mountain in North America. He seeks to become the first to reach the summit, driven by the peak’s namesake connection to his brother John F. Kennedy.
In a 26 hour flight Russia's Voskhod I I mission returns with Col Pavel Evlayev and Lt Col Alexei Leonov landing near Perm under manual control after off course landing fears. The pair, involved in a historic space walk, completed 17 orbits and nearly 500000 miles. Officials delayed word on landing for 42 hours amid speculation.
Gov John Connally led a wide tour of Amarillo health facilities during a day of snowfall. He visited St Anthony's Hospital to greet Gen Ernest O Thompson and inspected the Amarillo Medical Center site. The governor also toured Amarillo Air Force Base with city and state dignitaries before an extensive schedule was cut short.

Police arrested 36 people at Collinwood High School in Cleveland as racial violence flared near the campus. Two thousand stayed home amid fears of further clashes while 22 were charged with disorderly conduct. 13 youths, 14 to 17, sent to detention. About 200 officers patrolled the area as white and Black student leaders met to seek calm.
