The House approved the Dies bill 257 to 112 directing silver be accepted at a premium above world price for surplus agricultural commodities. The measure backs new silver certificates and faces Senate action while Morgenthau avoids a definitive stance on silver policy.
President Roosevelt asks Congress to establish 12 industrial credit banks to safeguard 346000 jobs and create 378000 more. He seeks Fed control with $140 million stock sale to the treasury and calls for early action. Banks to be directed by industrialists.
A judge refused a defense request to pause the ongoing trial process. The court proposed selecting a new venire from an original pool reduced to about 113 eligible jurors after many were excused.
Strenuous efforts were made on Monday to avert crippling strikes in major industries as the hour neared for action. A juror was accepted in the murder trial of Frank Crutchfield of White Deer, charged with killing Police Captain Barnam on January 5. Auto industry leaders met in New York amid a walkout threat set to begin Wednesday, while NRA administrator Gen. Hugh H. Johnson offered his offices to aid a solution.

The Senate Judiciary Committee reported that petitions seeking the removal of Sen. Huey P. Long were scurrilous and defamatory and unsupported by facts. Long, a Democrat from Louisiana, won a significant political victory amid the ouster effort.
Four men including two officers were seriously injured when a police radio car overturned three or four times during a pursuit from Amarillo into Vega. Frank Gamblin Virgil Beavers Carl Scott and Oliver Scott were injured. a fifth man J B Martin was arrested at Vega on a stolen car theft charge.
A fierce Mediterranean storm endangers Samuel Insull aboard a chartered tramp steamer. The 74-year-old fugitive faces possible arrest for grand larceny and embezzlement as he suspects to land at unknown havens while world powers monitor his movements.

President Roosevelt drove to a naval hospital to see his 18 year old son John Loy after an appendicitis operation. Dr Ross T McIntire said everything is fine. Mrs Roosevelt followed the son to the hospital and stayed through the operation.
Throngs crowded Amarillo downtown from 7 p.m. to midnight for the Annual Spring Style Show. Merchants offered open houses and novelty displays with band concerts on Polk Street. Senior High and Dave Derden bands played as pastel fashions dominated shop windows with pinks blues greens and yellows. Ladies favored frills soft prints while gowns showed trains and hot brim hats featured dramatic angles. Men’s styles highlighted bi swing coats belted with inverted pleats as sandals emerge for summer footwear.
In Grand Prairie Texas a $1,543 bank robbery is linked to the Clyde Barrow gang. A witness Leo Burkett identifies Raymond Hamilton as the getaway car operator, saying he stood within three feet of him. Police note Hamilton recently escaped a Texas prison farm.
