Ronald Bond, 33, reportedly jumped from a downtown Columbus bridge and was rescued from the water by a Columbus firefighter and others. He is described as a patient at Central Ohio Psychiatric Hospital and is in satisfactory condition.
The United States confirms 12 black steel caskets containing American pilots killed in Vietnam were handed to President Carter's commission in Hanoi. The panel notes possible desertion cases and plans to seek missing in Laos and Vietnam, with remains flown home on an Air Force jet.

Potter County Attorney Kerry Knorp hailed as good news the quashing of a bribery indictment against the Amarillo law firm Gibson Ochsner Adkins Harlan Hawkins. The judge left counts against Knorp and two other firm lawyers Hawkins and Musick. Trial dates and remaining charges outlined, with several related indictments still pending.
AP reports that forces invading Zaire include white troops aided by the Angolan government with Soviet rockets. Katangan exiles, some from Angola, form the core 2000 strong force, moving logistics by rail and trucks toward Mutshatsha near Kolwezi while Zaire forces hold a fragile line.
