The Amarillo City Commission authorized a notice to material men and contractors for a complete gas distribution system to be financed by revenue bonds bearing 6 percent interest and maturing over 10 years. Completion by September 1 carries a 500 dollar daily penalty for delays.
Partly cloudy and cooler conditions expected for Amarillo on Wednesday with a cooler north area in West Texas. New Mexico generally fair with little temperature change. Hourly readings show daytime highs around the low 70s and lows in the 40s, with slight variations for the period.
Yesterday's sale of Tack's roses drew the heaviest crowd yet. A few bunches of five varieties for $1 remain at 317 Van Buren Street. The Tactless Texan distributed thousands of roses in the Panhandle at cost, aiming to boost rose gardening in the region. Replacement roses for last year's failures will be available at 804 Hayden Street.

District Attorney Edw Thomerson and Grady Hazlewood will assist. The Tennessee anti-evolution law repeal debate unfolds as lawmakers weigh the Scopes trial legacy.
In a Texas trial today for murder, the sheriff and three deputies sit on a special venue jury pool. Will Moore, the defendant, faces a jury drawn from the jailer and deputies plus a health department secretary wrongly placed on the list. A Chinese citizen, Joe Yan Kong, also appears but service is incomplete.
State authorities report transportation expenses have been forwarded to Kansas City for C J Coder and Lewis Hurst two Communist organizers to return to Dallas to testify before a grand jury about their alleged kidnapping and flogging by armed men who seized them from the Dallas city hall steps March 5. In Illinois near a Mississippi ferry landing 25 armed cars ambushed six deputy sheriffs guarding non union iron and boiler workers erecting gasoline tanks. Four officers were wounded as shots rang out with attackers shouting scabs amid a fiery exchange, while Iron Workers Union leaders condemned the job for employing many non union workers.
Alvis Graves, charged with killing Horace L. Smith at a Lubbock dance on January 11, will take the stand in Seventy-Second District Court to testify in his own defense citing self defense. Robert Averett was wounded and three others injured. the state plans to seek the death penalty. Graves has lived in Lubbock all his life.
Amarillo cattlemen reject wheat linked deaths saying the disease is common in cattle country. Panhandle Livestock Producers Association president Joe T. Sneed notes vaccination can prevent losses and that many herds suffering deaths were unvaccinated. Veterinarians call it hemorrhagic septicemia.
Rarin Jack Walton, once ousted as Oklahoma governor, clinched a key mayoral nomination in the city primary. He led early returns with 8 189 votes to C J Blinn's 8 361, edging toward a final April 7 election amid past impeachment and federal indictment contexts.

In a separate scene a band practice turns into a brief insurrection. Patrick Ireland from Dublin attempts Marine enlistment but is rejected for colorblindness.
A. M. Farmer wrapped his sick wife in bed covers and carried her to safety as flames neared her bed in a Dallas home. Damage was estimated at $4,000.
Six-score Sealer Viking crew and officers reached Horses Island after two days adrift in Arctic ice following Sunday’s blast. Rescue arrived as Sagona and Foundation Franklin brought aid, delivering injured to shipboard nurses and doctors for speedy transport to St Johns.
Representative Long of Wichita Falls assails Governor Sterling Pat Neff and Humble Oil on oil and gas conservation. He accuses Sterling of listening to Humble and says Neff politicked over gas waste in Reagan County. Long defends Tevrell and Smith citing a prior opinion limiting railroad commission authority.
Ervin Lovell, 28, a student at West Texas Teachers College in Canyon, sustained severe facial and hand lacerations and a probable kidney rupture when the car he was riding in overturned near Canyon. He was rushed to Northwest Texas Hospital by Dr. Marvin Sadderis. Cause attributed to steering gear trouble. his exact role in the crash and whether others were present remain unclear.
Dalhart March 17 R Nelson 40 is held in Dallam County jail on $5,000 bond after being charged with attempted criminal assault of a 6 year old girl.
