W K Haile known as King of the fringe hills and farmer John Ramsey remain jailed without bond awaiting a strict court murder trial for W E F Smith of Fairfax. The lengthy preliminary hearing ended with Judge A L Justis saying enough evidence exists to hold them. A $250000 suit was filed by Hale’s nephew Ernest Lurkhert against five federal agents and Pawhuska attorney R ay Comstock and others.
Ed Crowder, 24, son of a Katy-area farmer, confessed to district attorney Horace Soule that he robbed Citizens State Bank of Houston in the forenoon, taking $2900. After four hours of questioning, charges of robbery by firearms were formally filed.
A very severe earthquake was logged on Georgetown University seismograph. The disturbance lasted from 6:59 to after 8 but strongest between 7:09 and 7:11 a.m. The epicenter direction from Washington was uncertain and the quake was estimated about 1900 miles away.
W. C. Houston, 35, of Owa Park near Wichita Falls, was found fatally wounded on the floor of his garage. A .22 rifle lay across him. His six year old son Elmer heard the shots and alerted his mother and a neighbor before Houston died at Wichita Falls hospital.

New York March 11. Federal authorities issued warrants against 27 physicians 6 druggists and 4 distillery agents for illegal liquor through false prescriptions. U S district attorney Buckner says over 275000 gallons were released illegally in the past year. He alleges permit book theft and blank signing schemes, with thousands of druggists holding permits to dispense whiskey.

Moscow reports that from today the ceremony time for marriage in soviet Russia drops from 15 to 9 minutes and divorces from 32 to 12 minutes. The change uses an American card index system replacing old registry books. No charge for ceremonies, but attestation costs 500 if requested.

B C D officials and J N Riggs deny rumors that Amarillo cannot host the West Texas Chamber of Commerce convention June 21 to 23 due to an oil boom. Riggs calls the reports unfounded and says Amarillo is actively planning the event, with a nine member steering committee and sub committees forming.
In Washington on March 17 Representative Blanton charged the army and navy exercise control over the national government during district appropriations debate. He claimed officers hold over twenty administrative posts and said they can control Congress. Blanton said he sought to remedy the situation.
W. F. Finley, former president of the Chicago and Northwestern railroad, died at his Wheaton, Illinois home after one day of illness. He was one of the last pioneer railroad builders.
Rex Melipone was killed and BH. H. Meidenkamp seriously wounded by bandits in Ixtlan near Mazatlan last Sunday. U.S. Consul Blocker reported to the American embassy in Mexico City and urged Mexican authorities to pursue and punish those responsible. Both men worked for the Utah construction company.
Manila reports that Second Lieutenant John B. Thompson of the U S Army was hanged early today for the murder of Miss Audrey Bukielet in Manta Apell 1985. The case followed a high profile proceedings, with Thompson facing the death penalty after conviction.
S. L. Olson for Layne & Bowler challenged Kiersted plan cost comparisons for Amarillo water. He argued pumping costs under Layne & Bowler are lower, citing a 92 foot elevation advantage at their proposed well site and including operating costs, interest, and sinking fund with a five million gallon city reservoir.
Mineral Wells Texas March 17 an automobile plunged down a thirty foot embankment seven miles east of the city near midnight. Carl Garden meir of Frankell Mrs Jack McClure of Fort Worth and a Mr Stevens of Frankell were injured, with Garden meir dying from the crash. The car skidded and toppled over the slope.
Des Moines reports a Calcrie Texas tragedy where five Trichell family victims died in a house fire. The burial planned in Electra will group Mr and Mrs Trichell and three children in a single grave. The blaze reportedly began as kerosene was used to start a fire.
Amarillo and vicinity Thursday will be partly cloudy with mild temperatures. West Texas mostly partly cloudy to cloudy, while eastern New Mexico expects warmer conditions later Thursday with colder trends in the northeast. High pressure dominates the east, bringing generally cold, snowy conditions in the north and rain in central Texas.
