R T Nix, charged with murder in the slaying of Noah Cornutt after a Sunday gun battle, was bound over to await the grand jury. Evidence supported Nix's self defense claim as Cornutt allegedly threatened him and gave 15 minutes to leave town.
Amarillo and vicinity expect a Tuesday of fair skies with warmer conditions in the eastern portion of West Texas. New Mexico will see generally fair weather with little temperature change. Hourly readings show daytime highs around the mid eighties and nighttime lows in the sixties to seventies range.
Tack roses sold at $1 a bunch yesterday at 817 Van Buren Street with five varieties. Mail orders keep steady. 500 more bunches planned for sale this week. Replacements for non blooming roses available from D. N. Redburn at the rose headquarters or 804 Hayden Street.
Five year old W. D. Thurman Jr. was hit at Van Buren and West Sixth by a car driven by A. J. Armstrong. He is in serious condition at Northwest Texas Hospital with brain concussion and head lacerations. doctors fear additional complications though no bones are broken. Witnesses include neighbor H D Baker who saw the scene. driver claims the child darted from behind another vehicle.
A Mexican woman named Herminia Carriasco and two young children were involved in a car accident near 1700 Arthur Street. The woman suffered a broken leg, a 6 month old cried head wound while an older child carried in arms escaped with no injuries. They were taken to St Anthony's Hospital by ambulance after a physician treated them at home.
A fire at Dr. William L. Bates private sanitarium in Jamestown Rhode Island killed four patients and an orderly. One patient was rescued from a second story window as the blaze destroyed a cottage. victims named include Edward Peckman 83 Catherine Gerhard Edward Shea Harry Eastman and Joseph Hartman the orderly.
Cardinal Pietro Maffi, once a papal candidate, died in Pisa at age 73 after a bout of influenza. He had received the last rites on Feb 24 after insisting on kneeling to receive the host, and Pope Pius sent benediction as his condition worsened before death tonight.
Miss Ida Eckert, 42, died today in Mason after accidentally shooting herself with a .22 caliber rifle. She is survived by her parents Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Eckert and several brothers and sisters.
Secretary for India Wedgwood Benn told the House of Commons that 14,335 political prisoners had been released in India as of last Friday March 18. Of the total 13,927 men and 408 women were freed under the agreement.

Galveston on March 16 23 year old Mrs Ben Saline Marshall wife of W B Marshall fell from the third story of a hospital and died. An inquest verdict returned death by own action.

O G Douglas, 61, longtime Dalhart resident, died Saturday at 2 30 pm after months long illness. He is survived by his wife. Funeral services were held Sunday at 4 pm from the M E Church South with Rev George Palmer officiating. Burial followed in Dalhart cemetery under Peeples Co direction.
A branch of the Commercial Savings Bank and Trust Company in Toledo was robbed today of $4000 by two bandits who corralled three employees at gunpoint before fleeing.
