Woman Dies in Blazing Room Fire at Van Buren Apartment
A 44 year old Amarillo resident, Margaret Lee Sullivan, died in a fire in her second floor three room apartment at 905 Van Buren. Firemen arrived to find the bedroom engulfed and smoke filling the unit. Assistant Fire Chief Jim Henley said smoking in bed caused the blaze. The apartment was isolated with minor water damage to the one below. Investigators believe Sullivan slept while smoking, possibly while packing to move. Surviving is an uncle, John M. Davis of Amarillo. Funeral services are pending with Blackburn Shaw Funeral Home.
