The Amarillo vote tallies show Absolute Prohibition leading at 882 with 1,828 of 6,250 ballots counted. Repeal has 331 and Modification 615. Ardmore, Oklahoma reports stronger prohibition results with similar turnout patterns. The NEA tally notes Amarillo’s result is heavier than most 20,000-plus cities except Ardmore.
Washington March 15 Forbes former director of the veterans' Bureau and John W Thompson a St Louis contractor convicted of conspiracy in hospital contract awards must go to the penitentiary unless the supreme court reverses its action denying their appeal. They may seek a rehearing but the court's brief revival of their petition offers little hope. The men claimed illegal seizure of papers jurisdictional challenges and witness issues but the government denied any constitutional violations and the court upheld that view.
The House passed a radio bill while the Supreme Court refused review for Ald Chapman and Forsbes and Thompson. Kellogg returned from the south as plans for taxing moonshine were announced. The Army Engineers heard Great Lakes to sea canal talks. Senator Wheeler pressed for action on Hayes and other cabinet matters.
Special to The New Plainview, March 15 Christopher Hinn, 71, pioneer resident of Plainview, dropped dead at 3:30 PM while at work at the Harvest Queen Mill. He aided his son Albert G. Finn, owner of the mill, in operating the mill and elevator, and was prominent in grain circles.
R C Dick Ware 65 pioneer of the South Plains died of pneumonia in a Fort Worth hospital after attending cattlemen’s convention. He was vice president of First National Bank, owned Ware Hotel stock and farms in Hale and surrounding counties. Funeral in Plainview Tuesday at 2 p.m. Survived by wife and daughter Mrs I A Hart.
Washington March 16 The Supreme Court refused to intervene for Gerald Chapman who faces execution for murder. In a two word verdict the justices denied his petition, ending any further relief and leaving his status to be reviewed no further.
Plymouth Vermont March 15 The illness of Colonel John Cooley Coolidge showed slight improvement tonight with a report that he rested well and was brighter and more cheerful. His personal physician may summon Major Coupal for consultation as Dr Albert M. Cram issued the daily bulletin signaling hopeful progress after several days of weakness.
Washington March 15 The Senate reclamation committee ordered a favorable report on the Hudspeth bill to appropriate 2,000,000 dollars for storing Pecos river waters to irrigate 40,000 acres in Texas.
Report notes press outlets long favoring beer and wine launched nationwide straw polls. The News and Globe reported Amarillo poll participation at NEA Service request, amid ministers calling it a wets conspiracy. Analysts view the effort as strategic froth with little impact on prohibition policy.
The jury in the Frank Crutchfield robbery trial at White Deer was discharged at 10 am after failing to reach a verdict. In Chihuahua City a farmer identified as Loweree killed his wife and six children, ordering them to pray for their souls before killing them with a hammer, then shot himself. A passerby found the house with the family dead. the Red Cross arrived after four, cause of the act is unknown.
Washington reports a proposal sponsored by Representative Hudspeth to replace the Rio Grande wooden bridge with a new structure. It would authorize the El Paso Electric Company and Paso and Juarez Traction Company to begin work once Mexican approval is secured.
A defendant entered a guilty plea in a court proceeding. Harry Volpers was released on a ten thousand dollar bond as the sentence was deferred pending further action or sentence.
A federal grand jury in Cleveland charges 112 people in twelve cities with conspiracy to violate the National Prohibition Act. Harry Volpe of Providence pleaded guilty. total defendants may exceed 200. The case covers 76 carloads of grain alcohol and $75 000 gallons, with 188 overt acts across illicit operations from Cleveland to the Pacific coast. Authorities expect rapid arrests for the remaining suspects.
Tulsa authorities report nine people injured in a collision at a street intersection when a fire truck struck a trolley car. One person is feared fatally injured as the truck overturned from the impact. The crash occurred in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on March 15.
A four man slate led by A. E. Meyer Ed Roberts B. C. D. Bynum and J. B. Coe entered the Amarillo school trustee race as the sole candidates so far to fill four vacant seats with retiring members. The ticket draws support from present board members and local officials while anticipating a growing enrolment and a new $240 000 school building and units.

Senator Walsh urged indicting government witness George B Hayes, claiming his testimony exposed alleged deals. Senator Borah backed pursuing perjury prosecutions to clear the record and criticized the investigation as a black page in American jurisprudence.
Conductor of Slaton is victim of tragedy early Monday morning as Neal Maloney dies after being struck by his own train at Snyder. Local authorities investigate the incident as a fatal accident with rail safety officials notified.
Neal Maloney, 35, Santa Fe freight conductor, was instantly killed when he fell between the last car and the caboose as the train entered Snyder yards in Slaton Texas at 1 20 this morning. He is survived by a sister Mrs H T Shelby of Slaton and a brother. A funeral will be held here tomorrow before the body is sent to Newton Kansas.
The Little Rock firm M. W. Biking and company purchased the entire issue of city school bonds at a premium of 2.89 percent, with eleven bidders. They will also cover printing and attorney fees totaling about 1 200. Bond denominations range from 1000 to 9 098 with maturities up to 40 years. Bids opened April 5.
A nine year old San Bernardino boy, J. B. Earp, wrote to Governor Richardson asking for a job as the governor's office boy. He says he plans to run for governor when grown and can only devote this summer to political training while balancing studies in the third B grade.
