The United States filed a civil action in Philadelphia seeking nearly 12 million dollars in damages from five electrical manufacturers for alleged bid rigging and price fixing in oil circuit breakers since 1951. The defendants include General Electric, Westinghouse, Allis-Chalmers, Federal Pacific, and J-T-E Circuit Breaker Co. TVA seeks triple damages while the DOJ seeks double.

In New York on March 14 AP reports Stanley Janus 38 and Lester Janus 40, small men 37 and 35 inches tall, were caught slipping under a subway turnstile to dodge 15 cent fares. A patrolman seized them. they pleaded guilty before a magistrate as the crowd watched.
The Senate approved a bill to subject imported milk to state health standards, risking a retaliatory embargo on Texas products. House members debated a similar bill but could not finalize it due to parliamentary maneuvering, continuing work on a local docket.

Two Don Marsalis Jr. family sons, ages 10 and 12, were trapped between floors in the Vaughn Building elevator for about 90 minutes. Communication with their family came via the elevator intercom. Father Don Marsalis Jr., Flora Louise 8, and Danny 3 watched as David 10 and Don Ifi 12 were freed by an elevator repairman.
Sen Grady Hazlewood moved his merit rating auto insurance bill out of committee for Senate debate. The committee version keeps a stronger merit plan than his original and the board of insurance proposed tweaks may limit discounts and raise base rates. The bill faces further floor action.

A B52 bomber carrying an armed nuclear weapon crashed from 16 000 feet into a barley field near Sacramento California. Eight crewmen parachuted to safety before the explosion scattered wreckage. An explosive ordnance team recovered the bomb and an Air Force spokesman noted its presence.
Jefferson County grand jury indicted Sheriff Charley Meyer, Port Arthur constables O Neal Provost and G B Graham, former Port Arthur Police Chief G B Douglas, and Jefferson Novelty Co owner N H Helms on bribery charges. Total alleged bribes amount to 1700 dollars. The Texas Supreme Court refused to halt action against Jefferson County District Attorney Ramie Griffin.
