The quarter horse convention sale at the Amarillo Fair Grounds drew more people than any livestock sale here, with many unable to enter the W M Gouldy Sales Arena. Some suggested moving to the Coliseum, but it is currently an ice rink for the fair and fat stock show, making dual uses costly.
Last Saturday readers urged stopping Castro sugar payments. Two Hereford residents wired in. Randall County commissioners discussed a possible 250000 dollar bond election to finance right of way for a proposed Highway loop around Amarillo. The plan covers about 400 acres with a 50 percent department participation and a 250 foot right of way. Local officials weighed public support and cross-county approval, noting Potter County may back land purchases in the North Amarillo area.

Canadian breeder George Cheatham, president of the Canadian Quarter Horse Association, and his wife Edna are in Amarillo for the American Quarter Horse Association national convention. Raised in Kansas, Cheatham built a lifelong passion for horses, financing his KU education by trading horses and later working for Maloney Crawford Tank Company in Tulsa. In Canada, he and Edna now reside near Calgary, where Southern Alberta hosts a strong U S community.
E E Boxwell rancher and church figure known as Dad to many youths died Monday afternoon at Dumas Memorial Hospital after a car crash six miles south of Dumas on Highway 87 287. The 81 year old was injured when a trailer whipped across the highway causing the overturn. He died about 2 p m. He was father to Howard Paul Ivan Alton and two daughters Mrs James C Bynum and Mrs Harold Beeman. The accident involved a cattle feed trailer and occurred as he headed north toward Dumas.
