Crippled Girl Reaches Milestone After Leg Amputation
Springfield March 13 13 year old Jean Marie Stumpek underwent an operation at Shriner's Hospital to have her crippled right leg amputated at her own request. Doctors hope an artificial limb will let her walk unaided within months and shed her crutches. Her doctor praised her courage as she looked forward to a return to normal activities.

Five year old David Carroll Hopkins was struck by a car on the Henderson highway five miles southeast of Tyler at 4:30 PM. His parents failed to reach Tyler by telephone due to a tie up and a neighbor summoned help. The ambulance arrived 70 minutes after the accident, but the boy had died.
