A presbyterian pastor alleges that a straw vote was instigated by organized wets during a heated local controversy. The claim centers on alleged planning by political factions to influence opinion.
In Haskell County Texas four miles west of Weinert a home fire killed three Bennett children aged one three and six. Mrs Bennett had walked to a neighbor and saw flames upon arrival. A brother attempted rescue and was burned. The blaze destroyed the family home Saturday afternoon.
The News-Globe asks Amarillo readers to mail in a postal card attached to the newspaper copy to cast a straw vote on the Volstead Act. Only 6,250 cards were printed and must be returned by Tuesday evening. Gaston Gibbs, 15, while flying a kite with baling wire near Rosebud, touched a high voltage line and was knocked unconscious. He lost three fingers on his right hand. his brother Weldon, 18, a Scout, revived him and they rushed him to Cameron hospital.
At Pawhuska Oklahoma March 13 a preliminary hearing for W E Hale and John Ramsey revealed two confessions tied to the Osage murders. Frank Smith testified about Hale Ramsey and associates planning Rosan and Smith deaths. Burkhart Grammer Kirby and others are named with Hale’s life policy and immunity refusals.
Emil F Myers yesterday announced the program of the 1926 Panhandle Music Festival to be held April 6 to 9 at the Auditorium. Allen McQuhae Irish tenor opens Monday night, Francis MacMillen violinists follows Tuesday, West Texas State Teachers College band Wednesday, soprano Marie Kurenko and the Tipica Orchestra Thursday. A forenoon contest schedule is set by Panhandle Music Teachers association.
Burglars spent hours hoisting and dragging a 700 pound safe from Gull Refining Company at 210 Monroe Street into the country. They blew the door off with nitroglycerin, left debris and scattered papers, and abandoned the empty scene after moving it fifteen miles. A foreman found the damaged safe the next morning and notified sheriff detectives who followed tracks and footprints.
Plymouth Vermont March 13 Colonel John J Coolidge father of the President barely held his own today in his battle for life at his home. The bulletin said he weakened slightly since yesterday. Dr Albert M Cram reported no immediate alarm though the 80 year old patient grew weaker and a hip cough prevented him from speaking with the President during a brief telephone exchange.

The proposal arises after the U S Supreme Court refused a rehearing in the Archer county bond case involving a district road bond between 75 million and 10 million dollars.

Austin reports federal agent G E Harrison seeks a $500 reward from Governor Miriam Ferguson for arresting a liquor law violator worth over $6,000 but proof is required that the convict is worth that amount. In Oklahoma Ernest Burkhardt is jailed with relatives for murder after a man refused to testify. In Sherman Charley Hefley, a prominent farmer, is shot dead at his Dorchester home and a wife statement follows. warrant expected.
A nitroglycerine shot at the Wiles Number 5 near Pam pa caused a gushing well. Tex Thornton of the V8 Torpedo company reported 5000 to 6000 barrels in flow, with oil spilling over a 116 foot derrick as a large crowd watched the event unfold.
In Dallas on March 13 a liquor law violator, M. H. Fletcher, was invited to assess his punishment in the judge's shoes. The judge refused to accept the sentence. Fletcher offered a $200 fine as the maximum he could pay without harm, and the judge set the fine at $200 for 119 gallons of liquor left by a departing roomer.
