U S Senator Price Daniel said he was willing to run for Texas governor but delayed a definite decision for two weeks He asked at least 25000 Texans to write in support and will announce on March 26 Daniel said the campaign must be a people's effort to let him finish his Senate term amid farm bill votes in Washington He recorded speeches for Texas stations and could not travel for the broadcast due to farm legislation duties.
Rep Ross Bass signaled the congressional manifesto on segregation is a political move to aid Sen George’s re election. George a Democrat from Georgia faces a potential tough race with former Gov Herman Talmadge named as possible opponent. The manifesto was formally presented in the Senate with 19 senators and 81 house members backing it. Bass affirmed his signatory status amid the controversy, while Sen Russell of Georgia was noted with related remarks.
Randall County closed negotiations with A. B. Hunsley for a right of way for the traffic interchange on Highways 60 and 87 north of Canyon. The county paid 35000 for about 30 acres, with 2500 deducted to pay Young's Drive-In cafe owners. Hinsley had asked 56000 for the property.

A U S Air Force rescue plane crashed and exploded off Newfoundland killing six crew members including two Amarillo Air Force Base officers and an airman. The 1739th Ferrying Squadron members were Lt. Donald O. Nelson and Lt. Stanley C. Campbell from Amarillo, 8Sgt. Floyd Allen Brown, with three others unnamed. The plane was en route from Amarillo AFB to the Azores, taking off from Argentia Newfoundland at about 9 30 a m local time.
In Millsfield New Hampshire a midnight primary produced a four vote split between Eisenhower and Stevenson. Kefauver leads in Democratic preference with no opposition, while Stevenson avoids direct contest. The event marks the year’s first presidential primary in New Hampshire.
In Tennessee the Democratic slate favors Stevenson allied delegates as Kefauver seeks a majority of 12 posts. Eisenhower faces no opposition for 14 GOP delegates though some back Knowland, while Nixon’s future sparks focus as weather adds scattered clouds to Amarillo area forecast.
