Nixon says Kissinger picked names for wiretaps under oath

Former President Nixon testified in a sworn deposition that Kissinger selected the list of individuals wiretapped without court order early in his presidency. Kissinger disputes this, noting Nixon approved surveillance in general terms and directed information to Hoover.

Nixon era wiretaps tied to Halperin case

Kissinger recounts Hoover naming four individuals at a April 25 1969 White House meeting including Halperin Anthony Lake and Henry Brandon. Halperin claims taps were illegal and aimed at leaks and political aims as the 1972 election nears. Government confirms Halperin home phone tapped 21 months May 1969 to February 1971.
