A 1953 test sowed six acres of sesame in Hale County by R. W. Stewart. Weldon Craig near Halfway plans similar plantings, noting sesame yields about a thousand pounds per acre. Sesame seed fetches 94.4 cents per pound this year and is used in baking, candies, margarine, and oils.
