Senator Robinson of Arkansas denounces Republican leaders and the Du Pont Liberty League for distorting facts about WPA relief. He accuses them of trying to ridicule the unemployed and cites local officials backing projects as lasting community benefits. He says the administration keeps politics out of relief while Hopkins’ record stands.
Congressman John H. Bankhead Democrat of Alabama floor leader told President Roosevelt the current legislative situation and outlined plans to push toward adjournment.

Rafaela Gallegos, an Indian nurse who served four generations of the Gallegos family in eastern New Mexico, dies after a six week pneumonia battle. Born circa 1840 when enslaved by Jesus Maria Gallegos, she was estimated at 25 to 30 then and lived to about 121 or more. She remained with the family until four years ago.
Partly cloudy Wednesday across Amarillo and vicinity with cooler conditions west of the 100th meridian. West Texas and New Mexico show similar partly cloudy skies with a cooler trend except for the Panhandle. Temperature readings from yesterday show a high around 35 to 64 and a low near 36 degrees.
Corpus Christi reports a gas vapor explosion at Humble refinery in Ingleside killed four men S. Womack Buster Wilson and C Boring Tackett died as the blast raised the toll to four. J W Cline and J L Franklin were in critical condition and six other workers injured. Investigators linked the blast to a short circuited electric extension cord used in a 30 000 barrel tank.

In the afternoon about twenty leading shippers met with railroad reps and the Interstate Commerce Commission to discuss proposed weight tariffs. The resolutions committee was led by H F McGill of Dallas.

The nominating committee chaired by H. L. Kokernot of San Antonio met yesterday evening. Morning sessions begin at 9:30 with W. T. (Tom) Cobl presiding. Col. Ernest O. Thompson leads speakers, including R. C. Pollock and R. W. Doe on meat grading and beef marketing, followed by Sen. Clint Small addressing the Texas tax situation. The Crystal Ball room at the Herring Hotel filled with about 500 attendees at the convention’s opening yesterday.
Mrs Maryon Cooper Hewitt, sought in California on a mayhem charge, worsened to coma today at the Medical Center in Jersey City where she was admitted February 21 after an overdose of sleeping tablets. Local police charge her with attempted death by her own action and as a fugitive from justice for a sterilization operation on her daughter Ann Cooper Hewitt.
James H. Carr former secretary of state and William E. O'Toole liquor lobbyist were sentenced to one year in jail and a $400 fine each for extorting $3,000 from McKesson-Robbins Inc for license renewal.
Julian L. Bivins of Amarillo was elected president of the Panhandle Hereford Breeders Association at the annual banquet in Amarillo. J. Lindsay Nunn of Amarillo became vice president and W. M. Gouldy was re elected secretary treasurer. The meeting drew record attendance as speakers praised cattle quality in the Fat Stock Show and honored late Wilbur C. Hawk.
The Standard Oil airliner lost last October with a crew of three was lifted from the lake bottom at noon by a railroad derrick. The craft showed minor damage with bent propellers and intact windows while its remains were towed 23 miles from the discovery site amid inspections by officials and manufacturers.
The House approved the green slip bill by a roll call of 268 to 76 and sent it to the Senate. It imposes fines for failing to file duplicate income tax returns used by state and local tax officials.

Fred Reppert and Earl Gartin, renowned auctioneers, officiating. The Pig and Lamb Club sale starts at 9 am in the Tri-State area, and the 1936 Stock Show ends with the baby beeves auction at 1 pm Thursday.

He plans to use prize money to buy more calves as Donley County wins county carlot honors and Shorthorn class profits go to Walter Mason Jr. of Cordell Oklahoma.
New York strikers claim owners brought in "Pennsylvania gunmen" to fight the building service walkout. Union leader James Bambrick threatens escalation, cites widened reach to Midtown, Grand Central, Brooklyn, and Queens. Police say 3,005 buildings affected, 222 settlements, 203 arrests since the strike began.
