The Texas House passed a bill by Rep Eugene Giles 76 to 25 to tax gross receipts by 1 percent on chain stores with more than five locations. Exemptions include wholesale, paint and glass stores. Rep Polk Hornaday estimates $3 million yearly. An amendment directs that after July 1 1981 three fourths of revenue go to reduce ad valorem tax.
