Gas disaster at Big Jim zinc mine near Miami
A mine accident at the Big Jim zinc mine eight miles northeast of Miami Oklahoma left Virgil Messer dead after a 60 foot fall while unconscious. Frank Roland and Frank Sisson were recovered unconscious. Otto Messer and Grover Todd ventured into the shaft to rescue them, with Messer’s body later found.

Negro Indicted for Slaying Near Bowie Prison Farm
Bow County grand jury in Boston returned an indictment against John Henry a negro for murder in the killing of James Asbury Whitten near the Bowie county prison farm on the night of March 1. A special 100 jurors venue is being summoned and Judge Hugh Carney set the trial for Thursday. Henry was brought from Marshall by Sheriff J. Baker and is held in Bowie county jail under guard.

Shoals bid approved and sent to Senate gains mixed votes
Washington March 10 The House approved H Ford's Muscle Shoals bid by 227 to 142, sending the McKenzie Bill to the Senate. The measure would authorize Ford to take over the government nitrate and power project on the Tennessee River under the bill's terms. Amendments were largely rejected, with the Maiden amendment obligating replacement of the Gorgas steam power plant now sold to Alabama Power. Ford would hold leases extending up to 119 years for dams and power stations, amid last minute efforts to constrain terms under federal act and recapture provisions if contract obligations were unmet. The final roll call showed party lines blurred, with 57 Republicans and 170 Democrats for the bill, 1223 Republicans, 19 Democrats and one Farmer-Laborite against.
