Bethlehem Steel rose 2.50 to 155.75 Kennecott Copper 5.37 to 140.50 Alcoa 4 to 98.75 U S Gypsum 2.25 to 64.25 and active buying spread across steel motors railroads copper oils chemicals and aluminum. It marked the fourth three million share day of the year as averages climbed to new highs.
President Eisenhower secured a narrow farm bill win in the Senate by a 46-45 vote to strike 90 percent wheat price supports. A tie was broken by Vice President Nixon, who cast the decisive vote after a recapitulation revealed a 45-45 result. Senator Gore disputed Nixon's action, but Nixon asserted the vice president can vote in a tie.
Secretary of Interior Douglas McKay announced in Portland that he will seek the Republican nomination for U S senator to challenge Senator Wayne Morse of Oregon. McKay, 62, formerly Oregon governor, said he would resign from the cabinet around June 1 if nominated and noted he spoke with President Eisenhower but was not urged to run.
Randall County commissioners acquired seven more parcels for the Canyon Amarillo expressway and ordered condemnation proceedings on another. County Judge Roy Joe Stevens was authorized to notify Herschel Jennings of the county’s intent to file, with 10 days for mutual agreement before court action. Immediate suit was ordered against Sid Carter for improvements on property in Southside Estates. Clarence Beckman proposed seeking an injunction to halt work at county expense.

The Retail Clerks International Association filed with the NLRB for a bargaining election at the Amarillo Woolworth Store. International rep F. W. Elliott said an election should be called within two weeks and would cover about 70 sales and clerical employees. The company had not organized the store, and a Palestine Texas victory recently occurred after a similar petition. A Woolworth manager indicated company labor relations would handle negotiations if the union wins.

Greece denounces Britain's seizure of Archbishop Makarios in Cyprus and recalls its ambassador in London after an emergency Cabinet meeting led by Prime Minister Constantine Karamanlis. Foreign Minister Spyros Theotokis confirms the recall as part of a strong protest against the act.
Weather outlook shows fair and mild in Amarillo Saturday with increasing clouds and colder air later. Sunday brings decreasing clouds and much colder conditions. New Mexico expected fair with some Saturday night clouding, turning colder northeast, and windy eastern areas.
The weather forecast warns two cold fronts will hit the Panhandle tonight bringing a high near 70 and a 40s low. One front from central Kansas may stall on the Oklahoma line while another from Montana pushes south. Winds are expected and the fronts appear dry per the weather bureau.
