The Amarillo City Commission passed an ordinance to charge five cents for bus transfers starting next week. Leonard Nussbaum cited 1953 earnings shortfall and urged reducing off peak buses. City auditor verified fare revenue drop 11.9 percent from 1952 with only 4.9 percent expense reduction.
City commission acceptance of the Amarillo Expressway plan is expected at a special morning meeting at Commissioner Art Jordan's home. President Eisenhower nominated Secretary of the Navy Robert Anderson as deputy secretary of defense to replace Roger M. Kyes, who resigns May 1. Anderson, a 43 year old Texas businessman and rancher, left his state roles to become Navy secretary in 1953.
Seven members were named to the Amarillo Traffic Commission by the city commission. Appointees include Lloyd Crews A J Folley Robert E Clements Dan Higgins Lowell Brown Mrs Walter Price and Lee Wils.
