Frederick Handley Quarles Til 20 of Charlottesville faced a piloting charge for 65 mph in a 55 mph zone. A state trooper testified to a point of speed. Nkru mah spoke in English with African inflection proposing a Congo program under UN supervision and U.S. and Soviet positions were presented ahead of Nkrumah speech. Adlai Stevenson urged calm to ease Cold War tensions and push disarmament talks.

J Frank Triplett heads the Producers Grain Corporation Amarillo and manages storage of about 18 million bushels. A tornado struck Angelina County airport in Lufkin with heavy rain and hail at 5 50 p m injuring no one. Four airplanes and several buildings suffered extensive damage with losses estimated at 100000. Trans Texas Airways and FAA facilities were damaged as hangars and a garage were heavily damaged and trees toppled. Three planes overturned and moved by the storm while part of a fourth plane was torn off.
