Radio Station Licenses Granted in Amarillo Case

The FCC denied W C Irvin a rehearing and granted Amarillo Broadcasting Corporation a radio station license in Amarillo. The commission said Amarillo’s stockholders are better qualified to supervise the programming and can secure funds for operation, while Irvin’s funds are limited and rely on immediate advertising support.

Senate Backs Bill to Expand Army Air Corps to 6000 Planes

Amarillo Area Weather Forecast and Temperatures

The forecast for Amarillo and vicinity calls for Tuesday to be fair and warmer. West Texas west of the 100th meridian expects fair and warmer conditions in the western and northern portions, while New Mexico remains fair Tuesday. Temperature readings from yesterday show highs around 58 to 60 and lows near 39 to 58 in various hours, with precipitation totaling .01 inch in the 24 hours ending 4 PM yesterday.

Where 10 Go and What to See At the Fat Stock Show

From 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. calf placing occurs in the livestock arena, followed by a noon luncheon and style show for wives of visiting cattlemen in the Blue Room. Lamb club judging spans 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Amarillo Hotel, and a 7:00 p.m. Panhandle Hereford Breeders Association banquet and officer elections occur there. Evening dances are scheduled at the Herring and Milner hotels starting 9:00 p.m.

Panhandle Hereford Breeders Sale Dominates Saturday Agenda

A busy event lineup includes a Pig and Lamb Club sale 9:00 to noon at the sales arena, a 4-H club parade at 10:00 on Polk Street, the 24th annual Panhandle Hereford Breeders Association sale at 1:00 at the sales arena, and a 1:00 to 3:00 fat stock show exhibition at the Para mount Theater.

Oldham Lad Wins Grand at Tri-State Pig Show

Thirteen-year-old Charles Wiseman of Oldham County took grand championship at the 1939 Amarillo Fat Stock Show with his Duroc boar, the top entry among 310 pigs from three states. His heavy singles and a winning pen of three barrows led a strong showing that included reserve champion Bill Kerr of Butler Oklahoma and multiple top divisions. Prizes totaled 392.50 with extra awards totaling 25 from the United Duroc Record Association. results list winners across light singles and litter categories.

Club Boys Take Spotlight at Show Today

Two men who sold cattle in Amarillo's first Hereford sale in 1915 captured grand championships as the ninth annual Amarillo Fat Stock Show opened. R T Alexander of Canadian won grand champion carload of bulls and W E Bennett of Amarillo won grand champion carload of heifers, with longtime Hereford breeders among the event’s founders. The sale of the champion bull carload went to Jay Taylor of Amarillo for 175 per head after judging. The report covers placings in yearling bulls, bull calves, and heifers, plus praise from judge W L Blizzard of Oklahoma A&M amid a flurry of competition for junior and senior calves.

Anadarko Team Wins Hardeman King Judging Trophy

The Anadarko livestock judging team of W. Wells E House and Coy Simms outpaced 26 rivals at the Amarillo Fat Stock Show to claim the coveted Hardeman King trophy. Ray Chappelle directed the contest with results announced at the FFA banquet in White Deer. About 150 FFA members and guests attended the event at the Herring Hotel with Nathan Edwards as toastmaster.

Caravan Directors Set for Amarillo Visit to Borger Birthday

Milton Cox and Bill Beechier will lead Amarillo's caravan to Borger for a birthday party tomorrow. Clerk Clay Thornton, chairman of the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce goodwill committee, announced a large delegation including 40 bandsmen from West Texas State College. Additional travelers listed include C. W. Farr Sam Page George Autry Homer Rice Ed Caskey Dave Mead and others. The group will depart from chamber headquarters at 9 a m with assembly at 8 45 a m boots and hats expected.
