MISS LEOPOLDINA ANDREU aged 25 of 3116 West 15th married Bernardo Pascual 31 of Oriente Cuba by Justice of the Peace Cliff Roberts. She attended in the Potter County Courthouse while the groom remained in Cuba.

Viet Cong forces struck Saigon with bombs and assassinations and attacked an unarmed oil barge the SS Paloma on the Saigon River. The 100 foot oil carrier was hit from close range as it neared the port while Vietnamese crew beached on a mudflat. An American LST and two minesweepers returned fire with 40MM guns. This was the third such attack.
The Justice Department says FBI agents in 43 counties were needed to supervise 15 day voter registration in Texas to meet a federal court order ending poll tax barriers. Gov. Connally and Texas Atty. Gen. Carr criticized the move as unjustified and insulting. The department cited lack of authority over county registration officials and the need to register 2.5 million unregistered Texans within the 15 day window set by the Legislature after the February court ruling.
A three judge federal panel ruled Alabama’s $1.50 annual poll tax unconstitutional and issued a permanent injunction against its collection as a condition for voting. Circuit Judge Walter P. Gewin dissented from the majority led by Judge Richard T. Rives and Judge Frank M Johnson Jr. The Justice Department had sued after the Voting Rights Act became law.
A federal warrant targets a 34 year old Chickasha Oklahoma woman after counterfeit twenty dollar notes spread through Amarillo. A phony bill was found in the City of Amarillo Corporation Court cash box. Ten bills were reported in the area with authorities expecting more as shops reported receipts with the notes. A chase from Godsey's Grocery in Bushland led to a Wildorado pursuit and an Oklahoma license plate.
In Philadelphia six employees lined against a wall in the Mayfair area were shot by a gray haired gunman. Louis Goldberg and Carol Zeidner died at Nazareth Hospital. Ann Flanagan remained critical. Marshall Frank injured in the arm and leg. Police note no provocation and the thief fled after taking cash.
The stock market halted its slide and edged higher at the close on Thursday. The Dow Jones industrial average gained 4.34 to 936.35 after early losses, with 648 advances and 545 declines among 1,425 issues traded. Volume reached 9.92 million shares. The NYSE ticker lagged 12 minutes at the close.
Tornadoes ripped across Mississippi at dusk leaving at least 42 dead and scores injured. Candlestick Park shopping center in Jackson took 13 deaths, with five more in Rankin County and five in Scott County. Hospitals overflowed as convicts and teenagers helped with rescue work.
