Cox of Conroe submitted his resignation from the Texas Legislature after a felony indictment charging him with conspiring to accept a $5,000 bribe to kill a bill he introduced. Heavy rains drenched a wide South Texas drought belt on Sunday with 1.16 inches in Corpus Christi and 1.60 inches in Cuero. The Weather Bureau warned of thunderstorms and hail across a broad area from Laredo to Galveston. no significant damage was reported as the warning expired.
A ground party reached the burned wreckage in the Olympic foothills and reported all five aboard were killed. The victims included pilot Capt. A 200 pound former professional wrestler nicknamed Buddy Bear escaped Hollis Oklahoma jail by prying mortar with a kitchen knife and shower head. He walked 20 miles to Wellington and rode a cab to Amarillo where deputies arrested him at the Forest Hill Motel. Bear, 31, was held on forgery and bad checks warrants from Harmon County.

Winds from the southeast carried the mass, which hovered over Wichita Falls and Childress earlier, with overcast and reduced visibility in Amarillo at 9:30 p.m. Sunday. The low clouds extended east to Dalhart and beyond.

A four year old girl missing for a week was found dead in a closet of an unoccupied ranch house in Bellmawr New Jersey. A puppy found with the girl is alive. Autopsy results pending to determine cause of death and whether foul play occurred. No suspects or arrests reported.
