A three foot high wall of water flooded the Porter Tunnel at Kocher's anthracite mine in Schuylkill County killing Gary Klinger 19 of Hegins and trapping nine other miners about a mile inside the mountain. Rescue efforts continued as debris was cleared and workers awaited word on the trapped men. The mine near Route 209 employs about 145 workers across two shifts.
Rafael George Macias, 20, was charged before Justice of the Peace W. W. Matthews with bond set at 100000. Investigators say the victim Julia Adams, 20, of Texarkana Ark, was killed Thursday night after a jealous quarrel and dismembered with a hacksaw. Her body was found in a crate with Air Force markings by two Fort Worth men who thought it contained auto parts. Adams had worked as a go go dancer in Fort Worth and used multiple names.
The Center for Disease Control investigates the deaths of George Flowers and Robert Dubingon, both linked to Building 7 in Atlanta. Officials note patients had identical symptoms from a viral like illness and lab tests are underway. Air pressure controls and restricted access aim to prevent spread while a broader surveillance of similar illnesses is launched. The deaths follow the facility’s exposure to virus research areas housing influenza, measles, and Legionnaires disease work.
