Betty Raines age 26 of Clovis New Mexico and her 10 month old son Terry remained jailed in Curry County today rather than pay a 15 dollar fine set by Justice of the Peace Cleta Williams on February 28. Raines faced a charge of driving with an expired license and would not pay the fee, so jail time was imposed in lieu of the fine.
Betty Raines 26 of Clo vis remained in Curry County jail with her 10 month old son Terry to sit out a 15 day sentence rather than pay a $15 fine for driving with an expired license. A justice of the peace gave five extra days to renew but she had not applied. She chose jail for financial reasons and to protest the fine.
Congolese Premier Joseph Ileo vowed to "kick communism out of the Congo" as reports described beatings and disarming of U N troops by Congo forces. In Elisabethville, U N sources warned of possible anti white attacks in Kivu Province while paratroops detained and released seven Tunisian and two Malayan soldiers.
