The Red Cross reduces its roll call budget from 154000 in 1945 to 75000 in 1946 and appeals for local county-wide support. The export set asides extend to 10 states Arizona California Idaho Montana Nevada Oregon Utah Washington Wyoming and Florida with specific percentages for steers heifers cows veal and different grade categories. This adds to a 30 percent reserve on choice and good beef for Army purchases.
The OPA announced price increases from $2 to $12 per ton for all basic steel products retroactive to Feb 15 to offset an 18 12 cent hourly wage rise. The average price for all steel rose 8.2 percent to $65.92 per ton from $60.92, with effects on consumer goods still to be determined.
