The Senate grilled President Roosevelt's alleged secret briefing on defense and foreign policy amid a heated fight over arms sales to France. Other actions include a War Department appropriations bill for 499.9 million dollars and a plan to expand the air force to six thousand planes.
The Texas Department of Public Safety resumes enforcement of the 7,000 pound truck load limit by license and weight inspectors after the Texas Supreme Court set aside two district court injunctions. Homer Garrison directs J. W. Longley to enforce, ending temporary injunctions against fruit and vegetable trucks from the lower Rio Grande Valley. The ruling upholds the law and limits judicial interference in executive enforcement.
W E Blacky York entered a state police office seeking a man, but Texas Rangers who were seeking York found him. He did not leave the courthouse and was jailed to await transfer to Brownfield where a grand jury indictment holds him.
Berlin reports Air Minister Hermann Goering told Nazi leaders that Germany will use all power to lift population from 80 million to 100 million. He called Germany a great world power and urged continued air force buildup and mass production of planes to maintain dominance amid others’ armament drives.
Mason County has entered four calves in the Amarillo Fat Stock Show opening Monday with stiff competition expected from Brady and Panhandle clubs. The Panhandle Livestock Association offers a $50 watch to the top Panhandle entrant. Oklahoma A. & M. College Dean W. L. Blizzard will judge Tuesday at 10 a.m.
Henry J. Ficke was arrested in the New York District Attorney office on charges of attempting to tamper with the jury in the retrial of James J. Hines. He allegedly approached juror Harry Coon’s wife Maude Coon with a remark about a favorable verdict being worthwhile.
Madrid March 1 official communique announced Diego Martinez Barrio has assumed duties as head of the Republican government after Manuel Azana resigned.
Washington reports Danilel J. Tobin of the AFL rejects serving as an AFL negotiator in peace conferences with John L. Lewis and CIO leaders due to workload. William Green will name a successor to maintain the conference framework urged by Roosevelt as Sen Alden and Sen Pepper propose a nonpartisan mediator for the talks.
Sir Arthur Willert, noted international affairs authority and diplomat, will lecture tomorrow evening at 8 15 at the high school auditorium under Globe-News auspices. A matinee for Amarillo school children precedes the talk, with 40 cent admission at the door.

Miss Miriam Wilson Gray County district clerk had two indictments for fraud dismissed by Judge W R Ewing on recommendation of District Attorney Clifford Braly. Prosecutors cited a Texas statute shielding officials from prosecution for acts before taking office. Auditors found a $175.91 still short in the clerk’s office after initial $250 shortage. County Treasurer W E James confirmed the shortage remained.
Alexander Gauntt an 18 year old North Texas farm boy pleaded guilty to a federal extortion charge. He admitted trying to extort 2000 dollars from H J Malouf of Knox City by threatening harm to Malouf's daughter La Rue aged 9. Gauntt was arrested at O Brien in Haskell County and pledged guilty before U S Commissioner John Davis within 24 hours.
The Texas Legislature paused for a brief rest as floor work nears, with plans to finish tax program details by March 13 and proposals to extend an oil compact. A House subcommittee will assemble a new old age pension financing plan, while rural school aid gains floor consideration next week.
Pier W. Lane of the Santa Fe Railroad agricultural department said wheat prospects are best in Oklahoma with Texas next, and New Mexico third. He estimated Kansas production this year at under 100 million bushels versus 152,184,000 last year, noting recent heavy snow could boost Kansas crop prospects.

Governor John Miles signed the Rio Grande compact ratification to share Rio Grande waters among New Mexico Colorado and Texas. He also renewed the interstate oil compact reflecting state energy and water collaborations.
Southern leaders testified before congressional committees that the freight rate structure harms Dixie and urged Congress to direct the ICC to study and adjust rates. They warned against rapid changes that could hurt the economy and pressed for a uniform basis for territorial rates. Several speakers cited regional rate disparities and the need for careful action. Yesterday’s temperatures ranged from a low around 32 to a high near 68 with .05 inches of precipitation in the 24 hour period ending 4 PM yesterday.
Mr and Mrs W 8 Wilson, aged 91 and 90, celebrate 72 years of marriage today in Pampa Texas. They wed March 1 1867 in Fayetteville Arkansas and moved through Alanreed Lefors before settling in Pampa. Illness keeps Mrs Wilson bedbound as they recall a life rich with children grandchildren and friendships.
The Panhandle experiences variable March weather with a snow event in Amarillo and towns like Texline Dalhart and Clarendon seeing one to two inches. Overnight temps rose from 22 to 28 degrees as conditions shifted from overcast to sunny. February was a dry month with 1.7 inches of precipitation, the driest since 1934, while temperatures ranged from 8 below to 65 above during the period.
