Five Burned to Death as Stove Explodes in Minnesota Farmhouse
Five family members including four children and a 70 year old grandfather died from burns after a stove overheated and fired a blaze that trapped them in Samuel Baseford’s home near Hibbing. Mrs Baseford escaped seriously burned as cardboard interior and paper exterior caught fire. Fire spread rapidly blocking rescue efforts on the second floor.

Fire Damages St Charles Apartments Annex
A blaze at the St Charles Apartments Annex last night at 9 15 caused about 7000 in damage. The fire started in a room with a gas stove left burning while the occupant was out. Furniture was ruined by water and the building suffered extensive damage. The fire began in the same room where Mrs. Fred W Calvert was shot on New Year’s Day. Hotel owner J F Vincent said only a small portion of the loss was insured.

Commission Opposes Division of Auto License Fees
The Texas Highway Department warns 1927 1928 revenue would fall short even with a three-cent gasoline tax and a new motor vehicle registration fee. If enacted and effective April 1 the department estimates up to 18.475 million dollars for 1927 with only about 2.21 million left after liabilities for state aid, and up to 18.85 million dollars for 1928 with funds mainly for maintenance and state aid balance limited to around 38.85 million.
