Guerrillas Kill U S Consul in Argentina Body Left Beside Banner
In Cordoba Argentina gunmen abducted and killed 62 year old U S consul John Patrick Egan after he left his home. His body was found on a dirt road wrapped in a Montonero banner with bullet wounds to the head. The murder prompted strong condemnation from Secretary of State Kissinger who urged justice and action against terrorism. Egan had been in Latin America since 1955 with Kaiser Aluminum and served as honorary consul since 1973. Government officials offered no immediate comment as investigations proceeded.

Oil Tariff Increase May Be Suspended
President Ford said he may suspend the oil import tariff increase for 60 days to allow time for a compromise energy plan with Democrats. Senate leader Mansfield and House leaders met Ford in the Cabinet Room to discuss a bipartisan approach and the possibility of meshing plans.
