Soviet Cuts 10 to 20 Percent on Consumer Goods

The Soviet government announced price cuts of 10 to 20 percent on a wide range of consumer goods including vodka bread and meat. May Call 2 More Guard Divisions

Gen. J Lawton Collins said two more National Guard divisions potentially could be called into federal service this year. Six divisions are already in active service, with the 40th of California and the 45th of Oklahoma bound for Japan next month for occupation and defense duties. Collins noted no current plans to summon additional divisions, though smaller guard units may be activated. He offered to discuss details privately with the House committee.

Legislature Nearing Final Approval on Redistricting

The Texas Legislature moved within a day of final approval as the House cleared the reapportionment measure 117 to 29 after a three hour debate. One amendment was added and the bill returned to the Senate for concurrence. Remaining hurdles are Senate concurrence on senatorial reapportionment and House concurrence on a Senate amendment reshuffling House districts. Gulf Coast reps Berlin and Nimitz led opposition over Orange and Jefferson counties. El Paso lawmakers also opposed. Isaacks urged caution against accepting Senate passage without full understanding.

Redistricting Shuffle Maps Panhandle Seats

In Austin on February 28, Morris G. Cobb clarified district numbering after Senate action on the House redistricting bill.
