The 240 block industrial area of Tokyo was left blackened by a Sunday raid. A B 29 daylight strike amid a snowstorm hit two subordinate aircraft plants and set 667 acres of fires as reconnaissance photos showed precise American bombing. The attack disrupted rail centers and portend continued pressure on Japan's war production as factories are dispersed.

The Navy reported the first Japanese parachute attack on a Seabee camp in the Philippines was repelled. Airfield and camp sections came under airborne assault but were met with heavy machine gun and small arms fire. Reinforcements from the Army then joined, and over the next 72 hours 259 Japanese were disposed of with minor Seabee casualties.

Air War Roars to Climax as February Bombing Peaks

Berlin faced a ninth straight night of Mosquito attacks dropping two-ton blockbusters as Britain based air forces and the U S Eighth Air Force pressed a record bombing campaign over Western Germany during February. Allied raids hit rail yards and refinery targets from Kassel to the Ruhr while German defenses warned of further strikes at Brandenburg Berlin and beyond. The two week onslaught totaled about 42 000 tons of bombs with 100 000 sorties by Allied air forces in Western Germany.
