Record Heat Keeps Amarillo in Sizzling Spotlight
Amarillo sweltered at 108 degrees on Sunday, tying all-time highs from June 24 1953 and 1990 as a heat wave stretched into a 12th hot day this month and a seventh straight day above 100. The heat caused outages affecting SPS customers while hospitals reported no surge in heat related illnesses. Parkfest for children with disabilities drew few attendees due to the extreme temperatures but organizers plan to repeat events to keep youths engaged in the community.
