Cost of executing 2 Copper Eskimos at Herschel Island
Authorities in Edmonton cite a $20,000 price tag for the trial and execution of Alikomiak and Tatamigana on Herschel Island a year ago. Explorer Knud Rasmussen disputes the sum, estimating costs at $50,000 to $75,000 and urging education on law before enforcement. He describes Copper Eskimos as in a state of primitive savagery with troubling customs.
