A U S Marine Reserve pilot was killed when an F8 Crusader veered from takeoff and crashed into a parking lot near the LTV Aero space Corp. plant in Grand Prairie Texas. Engine trouble was suspected. the pilot ejected but his parachute failed to open. About 50 parked cars burned. authorities reported the incident near Parkland Hospital in Dallas.
A Texas district judge voided a cigarette tax delay bill that would have postponed crediting about 6 million dollars in cigarette tax receipts. Attorney General Crawford Martin said the action won’t affect revenue estimates, and tobacco wholesalers planned an appeal.
