A packed auditorium heard a colonel disclose a line of attack aimed at a Titanic struggle for nomination. The speaker outlined strategy and stakes, asserting resolve and urging supporters to back the effort.
Theodore Roosevelt outlines principles and demands at a Chicago rally on the eve of the convention. He condemns fraudulent Taft delegates, vows to block seating by bosses, and urges delegates to throw out those seated by the national committee. He warns the convention could wreck the party if it betrays the people's will.
The Associated Press reports in Chicago on June 17 that Senator Root of New York appears certain to be chosen temporary chairman of the convention. Senator Borah of Idaho is the Roosevelt candidate for the position.
Chicago June 17 Texas Taft delegation ran a roster over Roosevelt members. Early in the day about thirty Taft men invited Roosevelt adherents to a caucus but the Rooseveltians refused. The Taftites fixed the slate and eliminated Cecil Lyon as national committeeman, naming H. F. McGregor in his stead.
Three affidavits charging bribery by Roosevelt supporters allege Mississippi delegate Charles Banks offered one thousand dollars to switch support from Taft. Affidavits were signed by Rev. James W. Shumpert A Buckley delegates and Ed M Sherrod Mississippi alternate. All named individuals are Black.
Twenty six Georgians and twenty eight delegates including all the negroes backed Taft at the Georgia delegation caucus. White delegates Clark Grier and J H Boone announced plans to vote for Roosevelt contrary to instructions. Boone insulted the negroes and a chair was raised as disorder erupted before peace-makers separated them. The negro leader demanded an apology which Boone refused.

In Lacrose Mexico on June 17 rebel forces under Col Rojas repelled three Federal assaults led by General Abago as they pressed toward the town from the Conchos river area. Skirmishes intensified with heavy fire but light casualties, while General Salazar left bed to supervise actions from Santa Rosalia nine miles away.
Ellen Almquist, 30, was found floating upright in Lake Como at 6:15 a.m. by traveling salesman Charles Amesberry. An abrasion and facial bruise along with the position of the body suggest foul play or accident. investigators vow to pursue the case.

In Fort Worth Texas on Sunday Chad Kinchen who died from a shotgun wound inflicted by his brother Loyd was laid to rest at West Oakwood Cemetery. The mother embraced Loyd Kinchen at the grave and wept as the final scene unfolded while Loyd was guarded by Sheriff Rei and Deputy Andrews. Family and a few Church of Humanity members attended the funeral.
Mrs. Rene I. Morrow, a Chicago clubwoman, was arraigned on murder charges in the death of husband Charles B. Morrow. He, an inventor, was found shot on their Michigan Avenue rear porch last December 28. Relatives prompted a police inquiry revealing domestic strife and prior threats by Mrs. Morrow.
The Johnson Flynn heavyweight championship bout set for Las Vegas on July 4 may be halted if Governor McDonald can prevent it with police, according to a report from Albuquerque New Mexico dated June 17 via the Associated Press.

Chicago June 17 George W Fitzgerald a former subtreasury teller will be tried in U S district court on an indictment charging the theft of 172000 from the government more than five years ago. He reportedly handled about a million dollars daily and first reported the shortage in his own accounts. Suspicion initially centered on Fitzgerald.
