Harriman Named Special Assistant to Coordinate Foreign Policy

President Truman named Ambassador W. Averell Harriman as special assistant to the President to coordinate foreign policy across government departments. Manhunt Ends For Big Homer in Bavaria

Bavarian authorities report the capture of Homer Cook, a 27 year old ex GI and former boxer from Muskegon Oklahoma, who surrendered under a bed at his German girlfriend Anna Sporrer’s apartment after a three day manhunt. He was found by American GI’s and German police while the tip came from a chauffeur who mistook Cook’s doorbell. Nearly 4,000 police and MPs searched for him across three days following two prior escapes from Dachau Army stockade. Cook cited love for Anna as motive for the third escape and said he was willing to surrender due to hunger and fatigue.

Walker Relief Drive Aids Fire Victims In Farm Family

Ex Army Technician Charged With Spying for Reds

Former US Army technician David Greenglass, 28, of Manhattan, was charged by the US with supplying atomic secrets to a wartime Soviet spy ring. FBI said he passed top secret information to Harry Gold while at Los Alamos in 1945. Greenglass faces $100,000 bail at a Friday hearing as authorities warn of more arrests.
