Amoy siege ends as pirate raid hits Amoy hospital
An American doctor and nurse defending a seaside hospital in Amoy repelled a pirate attack using a machine gun defense. Five were slain, including three pirates and two policemen, while the hospital sustained no damage. Dr C H Holleman and Chief Nurse Jean Neiheiss were unharmed. Ti Chui Hop, the pirate chieftain, was wounded inside the hospital. Police hid at strategic points and fled the pirates’ sudden assault.
